GERMAN In German, words ending with -lich often can be used both as adjectives and adverbs.

Er ist freundlich.
He is friendly (adj).

Er handelt freundlich. He acts friendly (adv).

However, these adjective/adverb words don't require -lich, as is shown in the example below.

Er ist schnell.
He is fast.

Er läuft schnell.
He runs fast.
