(This story is written in the present tense for the beginning
reader. Some compound structures, with both present
participles and past participles, are necessary.)
Les primats s'échappent aux arbres toutes les fois que nous venons dans dix jardins d'eux. C'est possible de les magnétoscoper de distances plus loin loin. Il paraît cela à ces plus longues distances, ils savent que nous sommes proches, mais ils nous ignorent.
The primates escape to the trees whenever we come within ten
yards of them. It is possible to videotape them from distances
farther away. It appears that at these longer distances, they
know we are nearby, but they ignore us.
Je suis étonné à leur agilité. Je ne suis pas expert sur les primats. Peut-être nous avons des primats que cela peut voyager à travers les sommets des arbres si rapidement sur terre. Vous ne pourriez pas me faire grimper là-bas et sauter comme cela d'une branche aux prochains. J'aurais peur qu'une branche casserait.
I am amazed at their agility. I am not an expert on primates.
Perhaps we have primates on Earth that can travel so quickly
through the tops of the trees. You couldn't make me climb up
there and jump like that from one branch to the next. I would
be afraid that a branch would break.
Elles sont un espèces très affectueuses. Je crois il y a approximativement cinquante individus. Je peux reconnaître environ demi d'eux. Mon intérêt est dans leurs interactions sociales. Ils dorment dans les arbres, et ils tissent des nids hors de plantes grimpantes. Je veux dire qu'ils font des filets, sorte de comme un hamac, mais pas exactement. Vous avez besoin de regarder les photographies d'exemples que j'envoie.
They are a very affectionate species. I believe there are about fifty
individuals. I can recognize about half of them. My interest is in their
social interactions. They sleep in the trees, and they weave nests out of
vines. I want to say they make nets, sort of like a hammock, but not exactly. You need to look at the photographs of examples that I am sending.
Est-ce qu'ils ont des pensées? Il paraît à moi qu'ils ont un sens d'humour. Encore une fois je dois m'excuser pour ne savoir pas comme les primats se comportent sur terre. Ils sont espiègles, sorte de comme écureuils, mais c'est plus que juste un qui chasse un autre.
Do they have thoughts? It appears to me that they have a sense of humor. Once again I must apologize for not knowing how primates behave on Earth. They are playful, sort of like squirrels, but it is more than just one chasing
another.
Un primat taquine un autre. Il y a un fruit orange qui est très juteux. Un primat cassera ce fruit face à un autre comme une surprise. Il fait un désordre très collant, et le primat qui joue la farce fait un bruyant criez à un haut ton et alors courses. Le primat avec les chasses du visage collantes l'autre, et essaie de trébucher l'autre primat.
One primate teases another. There is an orange fruit that is
very juicy. One primate will smash this fruit in the face of
another as a surprise. It makes a very sticky mess, and the
primate that plays the prank makes a loud scream at a high
pitch and then runs. The primate with the sticky face chases
the other, and tries to trip the other primate.
Il y a des temps qu'il paraît que le premier primat veut être chassé. Il y a des modèles comme à qui attaques qui. Quelquefois je veux jeter un de ces fruits orange à un primat, voir ce qui se passe, mais à m'ai été dit que nous pouvons regarder seulement les primats. Nous ne pouvons pas réagir réciproquement avec eux en aucune façon.
There are times it seems the first primate wants to be chased. There are
patterns as to who attacks who. Sometimes I want to throw one of these
orange fruits at a primate, to see what happens, but I have been told that
we can only watch the primates. We may not interact with them in any way.
Le soleil se couche maintenant. Il y a rose et orange et rouge qui brille à travers les branches sombres des arbres. Je vois des expositions d'affection entre plusieurs primats. The sun is setting right now. There is pink and orange and red
shining through the dark branches of the trees. I see
displays of affection between various primates. Suddenly now,
as I write, I realize something that I haven't thought of
before: there are no insects here of the kind I would call
bugs". There are butterflies, many butterflies with
iridescent purple and blue patterns.
Oh, je ne peux pas l'exprimer pourtant. Cette nuit sent comme magie à moi. Je veux écrire tous les détails de ce qui fait la magie. Le temps change si bientôt des choses. En quinze minutes ce sera sombre, et la magie de cette nuit sera ma première mémoire.
Oh, I cannot put it into words though I try. This night feels
like magic to me. I want to write down all the details of
what makes the magic. Time changes things so soon. In fifteen
minutes it will be dark, and the magic of this night will be
my first memory.
