Magellan - Nuestra Caverna Obligatoria
Magellan - Our Binding Cave

Plato's Allegory of the Cave explains his theory of forms. The story which follows is the Allegory of the Cave.

There are these people in a cave. They are tied up in such a way that they can only see this wall. Fires are burning behind the people, and there are beings waving objects between the people and the fires. The fires cast shadows on the wall, and the people think the shadows are reality.

Then the people are untied, and they turn around and see the objects, which are made of wood, and so they conclude that these are reality.

One day one of them is let out of the cave, into the bright sunlight, and he is shown a perfect steel sword.

How do we recognize the objects of our reality? What do you see when you look at a horse? What is the common form that you build in your mind, which you use to identify other horses? How much latitude is there for variation among horses?
