Verbs - English Examples of Tenses
A native speaker has examined the sentences below, which were prepared
to illustrate the different tenses. In each sentence, look for the
way the verb "to transform" is used.
Present Tense-
The machine in the Math-Com-Sci-Materials
building transforms raw matter into the intended object.
Preterit Tense-
A student's notebook states that the student transformed the object,
and it tells when the operationed started, and when it completed.
Imperfect Tense-
A student says that she transformed the object at 7:00 PM (it is now
2:00 AM and the poor student is still working because the process is
not finished.)
An alumni comes back to visit UMR (Univerdsidad de Macondo Realitécnico)
and expresses nostalgia: "We used to take used soda cans and transform
them into silver bullets when the lab supervisor wasn't looking."
Future Tense-
A professor in the Math-Comp-Sci-Materials building writes a proposal
and states that they will transform new materials from common clay.
Conditional Tense-
A professor tells a company rep "Surely we could transform this object
if the grant included funds for a bigger electric generator."
