Nadie habló. Marisa dio un vistazo a Jennifer. Jennifer
dio un vistazo a Thayes. Thayes dio un vistazo a Paex, y Paex
dio un vistazo a Marisa.
No one spoke. Marisa glanced at Jennifer. Jennifer glanced at Thayes. Thayes glanced at Paex, and Paex
glanced at Marisa.
“Donde están?” Louisa preguntó.
"Where are you?" Louisa asked.
Nadie respondió.
No one answered.
“Como irán a casa?”
"How will you get home?"
Aun no hay respuesta.
Still no answer.
“Que botón van a oprimir?”
"Which button will you push?"
Silencio.
Silence.
“Por cuanto durarán su actuales provisiones de comida y
agua? Saben donde encontrar más comida en la nave?”
"How long will your current food and water supplies
last? Do you now where to find more food on the ship?"
“Nuestra comida durará varios días,” Marisa dijo.
"Our food will last several days," Marisa said.
“Por que terminaron aquí?”
"Why did you end up here?"
Ni siquiera Marisa quiso tratar de adivinar.
Not even Marisa wanted to try to guess.
“Muy bien. Hasta más tarde...” Ella se desvaneció.
"Very well. Until later..." She vanished.
“Quizás debimos haber hablado un poco más...” Marisa
especuló.
"Maybe we should have talked a little more..." Marisa speculated.
“No creo que ni siquiera un rey o una reina habrían tenido
buenas respuestas a esas preguntas,” Jennifer contestó.
"I don't think even a king or a queen would have had good answers
to those questions," Jennifer replied.
“Esas preguntas fueron muy extrañas,” dijo Paex con una voz
cínica. “Cual es el significado filosófico del hecho de que
podríamos morir?”
"Those questions were very strange," Paex said with a cynical
voice. "What is the philosophical meaning of
the fact that we could die?"
“Sí, ella fue muy ruda,” Thayes concordó. “Podemos
mientras tanto tomar ventaja de las sugerencias que ella hizo
cuando era tan ruda con nosotros. Sabemos donde encontrar
más agua? Una persona morirá de deshidratación antes
que muera de hambre. Necesitamos fijar prioridades. Quizás
podríamos tener a una persona trabajando con la navegación y
tratar de llevarnos de regreso a territorio que nosotros
reconozcamos, y aprender como controlar que tan lejos vamos
con cada vuelo.”
"Yes, she was very rude," Thayes agreed. "We might as while take advantage of the suggestions she made
when she was so rude to us. Do we know where to find more water? A person will die of dehydration
before they die of hunger. We need to set priorities. Maybe we could have one person play with the
navigation and try to get us back to territory we recognize, and learn how to control how far we go with each
flight."
Jennifer miró a Thayes y sonrío. “Estás a cargo.”
Jennifer looked at Thayes and smiled. "You're in charge."
El equipo de búsqueda encontró al menos cincuenta diferentes
estilos de habitaciones, algunos con piscinas de natación y de
baño. Cada habitación tenia contenedores para el agua, y cada
contenedor estaba seco como un hueso.
The search team found at least fifty different styles of bedrooms,
some with swimming/bathing pools. Every bedroom had containers
for water, and each container was as dry as a bone.
“Agua es algo que ellos deberían tener en todas partes,” Thayes
dijo. “Debe haber algún símbolo o señal para indicar a donde
ir.” El comenzó a revisar las paredes en búsqueda de símbolos
que pudiesen ser encontrados a través de la nave. Encontró un
panel con un símbolo que parecía ser tallado en ópalo negro. Si
alguien tocara el botón del panel este se deslizaría a un lado,
un pico se extendería hacia adelante, y cerca de medio litro de
agua saldría del pico.
"Water is something that they should have everywhere," Thayes said. "There has to be some symbol or sign
to indicate where to go." He began checking the walls for symbols that could be found throughout the ship.
He found a panel with a symbol that appeared to be carved from black opal. If someone touched the bottom
of the panel it would slide aside, a spout would extend forward, and about half a liter of water would come
out of the spout.
Ellos dividieron el día en dos cambios de doce horas, con
Jennifer y Marisa trabajando para intentar y resolver como
maniobrar la nave usando el botón de viaje rápido. Paex y
Thayes trabajarían en explorar la nave, y trabajando en los
asuntos de supervivencia básica. Ya que a cada persona se le
había dado ocho horas para dormir, eso dejaba cuatro horas para
actividades ociosas o para reunirse con su pareja.
They divided the day into two twelve hour shifts, with Jennifer
and Marisa working to try and figure out how to maneuver the
ship using the fast travel button. Paex and Thayes worked on
exploring the ship, and working on the basic survival issues.
Since each person was given eight hours to sleep, that left
four hours foreither leisure activities, or to meet with their
counterpart.
Localizaron depósitos de agua, encontraron mantas y tela para
arroparse en caso de que hubiese un problemas con el sistemas
de calefacción.
They located resevoirs of water, found blankets and cloth for
clothing in case there was a problem with the
heating system.
“Quizás cuando no estemos tratando de viajar, deberíamos
estacionar la nave en una órbita alrededor de un planeta para
que así podamos tener rayos solares para las plantas si el
suministro de energía se corta,” sugirió Paex.
"Maybe when we aren't attempting to travel, we should park the
ship in an orbit around a planet so we can have solar rays for
the plants if the power supply cuts off," Paex suggested.
Paex estaba solo parado allí, observando por la ventana.
Paex was just standing there, looking out the window.
“Se siente seguro ahora?”
"Do you feel safe now?"
Louisa Fé. Ella estaba parada junto a él.
Louisa Fé. She was standing next to him.
“No sé. Puede decirme si alguna ves alguien de mi clase se ha
sentido a salvo?”
"I don't know. Can you tell me if any one of my kind has ever felt safe?"
“Solo si fuera un tonto.”
"Only if they were foolish."
“Y que piensa?”
"And what do you think?"
“Que estoy tratando con ‘uno de ustedes’ quien es
suficientemente inteligente para intentar engañarme
respondiendo mi propia pregunta.”
"That I'm dealing with 'one of you' who is smart
enough to attempt to trick me into answering my own
question."
“Usted tiene todo el poder.”
"You have all the power."
Ella sonrío. “Que tal si le digo que yo respondería una
pregunta, cualquier pregunta, que me hiciera?”
She smiled. "What if I told you I would answer one
question, any question, that you would ask?"
“No seria fácil. Eso me daría la carga de intentar decidir cual
podría ser la mejor pregunta para hacer.”
"It wouldn't be simple. That would give me the burden of trying
to decide what might be the best question to ask."
“Haría una pregunta que realmente le gustaría hacer?”
"Would you ask a question you really wanted to ask?"
“No.”
"No."
Ella miró por la ventana otra vez. “Creo que la vista es
tan emocionante para mi como lo es para usted, a pesar de la
disparidad de nuestro...poder.”
She looked out the window again. "I think the view is as much
of a thrill for me as it is for you, despite the
disparity of our ... power."
“Ya veo.”
"I see."
“Debería yo llevarlo a casa, devolverlo a su planeta? Debería
contarle como volar a casa?”
"Should I take you home, back to your planet? Should I tell
you how to fly home?"
Él no contestó de una vez. “Supongo que hay algo
que es bueno para nosotros, y hay algo que es bueno para
nuestras sociedades.”
He didn't answer right away. "I suppose that there is what is good for us, and there is what is good for our
societies."
“Significado...”
"Meaning..."
“Tenemos que nuestros filosofo dicen que DIOS nos abandonó por
una razón--para probar que podríamos sobrevivir por nosotros
mismos. Hemos estado solos --tanto tiempo. Y ahora, para que
eso cambie, --y para nosotros, ustedes son Dios--para que eso
cambie, quizás eso tomaría algo de nosotros--más importante que
las vidas de las cuatro personas en la nave.”
"We have our philosophers that say God abandoned us for a
reason--to prove we could survive on our own. We've been
alone--so long. And now, for that to change--and to us, you
are God--for that to change, Maybe that would take something
away from us--more important than the lives of the four people
on this ship."
“Puede morir algún día, sabiendo que usted se sostuvo en la

"You may die someday, knowing that you held on to your belief
in what you believed in." She disappeared.
Ellos encontraron un casco. Si pones tu cabeza en el casco,
verías las estrellas tal como las imaginadas. Podrías pensar en
una constelación, y esta aparecería en la pantalla dentro del
casco, luego podrías pintarte a ti mismo viajando a la estrella
de tu elección que se mostrará en la pantalla a la que
mirabas.
Entonces podrías quitarte el casco, y mirar el código de
colores que centellara en la parte superior. Ellos razonaron
que este código podría llevar a la nave a la estrella
seleccionada.
They found a helmet. If you put your head in the helmet, you would see the stars as you imagined them. You
could think of a constellation, and it would appear on the screen inside the helmet, then you could picture
yourself travelling to the star of your choice which showed up on the screen that you looked at. You would
then take off the helmet, and look at the color code that flashed at the top. They reasoned that this code
would take the ship to the selected star.
Lo hizo.
It did.
Retornaron a La Tierra. Entonces la nave se desvaneció.
They returned to Earth. Then the ship vanished.
